Hello from Boise, Idaho! I'm Michelle Philippi, a working mom, a wife, a cardmaker, and sometimes crafter. I just started cardmaking a year and a half ago, but I alway had that creative edge: I was always the person who took the present to the party with the perfectly wrapped box and the incredible handmade bow on top. But I don't have a lot of time. So I really make sure that what I do is easy and fun at the same time. I don't color images, and don't mess with rubber stamps - I swear by clear stamps because I don't have time to dilly dally and I need to see where I'm goin'! myStamp BOX for me is the perfect solution that can be incorporated in to lots of my creations be it a card or a little goodie bag.

Rien à voir / Nothing in common

Bonjour! J'ai à vous montrer deux cartes, faites pour deux occasions différentes. Si on ajoute qu'elle sont pour deux saisons différentes, on peut dire qu'elle n'ont rien en commun. A part d'être des cartes. La première est ma deuxième carte pour le défi "à 4 mains" dont je vous ai parlé il y a quelques jours. Avec ma partenaire, Kath, nous avons décidé d'utiliser deux tampons que nous possédons toutes les deux, Wildflower Garden et Dots & Flowers. J'ai embossé le premier en noir puis j'ai ajouté quelques couleurs de Distress pour imiter un coucher du soleil. Puis, j'ai tamponné le deuxième à l'eau. Et comme je vois l'été s'en aller un peu plus chaque jour, voilà le titre de la carte, Au revoir l'été, fait à l'ordinateur.

Hello! I want to show you two cards today made for two different occasions. If you add the fact that they are for two different seasons, I believe we can say they really have nothing in common. A part from being cards. The first one is my second card for the Pairing Up challenge I was talking about a couple of days ago. With my partner Kath, we decided to use two stamps we both have, Wildflower Garden and Dots & Flowers. I embossed the first one in black and added some Distress inks to imitate a sunset. Then, I water stamped the second for some pattern. And since I can see the Summer go away a bit more every day, here's the computer generated sentiment.

Et maintenant la deuxième carte que j'ai faite pour deux défis: celui de Paper Crafts Connection pour incorporer le texte d'une façon originale et pour le défi de Moxie Fab World, les voeux de Noël. Est-ce que je peux avouer que l'inspiration pour cette étoile en papier journal m'est venue quand j'ai regardé une poubelle? Oui, je suis passée à côté d'un container destiné à la collecte des vieux journaux et dessus il y avait un petit dessin ressemblant à un pièce de Tangram. De là à trouver un modèle d'étoile il n'y avait plus qu'un pas, ou click!

I made it for two challenges: Paper Crafts Connection September Gallery which was about incorporating text on one's creation, and for Moxie Fab World's The Jolly Holiday Greetings. Can I admit that the inspiration for that origami star came while I was looking at a old journals collector? Yes, that's right! There was a Tangram like logo on it. And from there to find a nice star model was only a question of one step, or click!

Les cartes du weekend / Weekend cards

Bonjour! Ce weekend dans le groupe flickr de Hero Arts, il y avait une action de "fabrication" de cartes pour l'Operation Write Home. En gros, on fait des cartes puis on les envoie aux soldats qui sont sur le front pour qu'ils puissent les utiliser pour écrire à leurs familles ou amis. Je n'avais pas beaucoup de temps, j'ai tout de même participé pour montrer mon soutien à cette action. J'ai fais une carte qui correspondait au défi "rien que les mots". La voici:

Hello! Last weekend in the Hero Arts flickr group there was a cardmaking party for the Operation Write Home. To make the long story short, it's all about making blank cards which are sent afterwards to soldiers on the front so they can keep in touch with their loved ones. I didn't have a lot of time, I still managed to make one card just to show my support for this action. I made a card for the "Just Words" challenge. Here it is:

Je l'ai aussi entrée au défi de Paper Crafts Connection qui est justement d'inclure sur sa réa du texte d'une façon originale. Ce n'est probablement pas révolutionnaire, juste une carte ultra rapide et sympa à faire. D'ailleurs, j'en ai fait une autre quelques jours avant. Sur celle-ci, j'ai tamponné un mot de façon à créer des croisillons puis j'ai ajouté des oeillets et un ruban noué en un gros noeud.

I also entered this card into the Paper Crafts Connection challenge which is about incorporating text in an original way. This one is nothing really revolutionary, just a quick and a fun to make card. By the way, I made another one few days before. I stamped a one word sentiment in order to make a pattern, added some eyelets and a ribbon knotted in one big bow.

Shabby n°2

Bonjour! Aujourd'hui est un jour un peu particulier sur le blog de myStamp Box puisque toute l'équipe créative s'est réunie pour vous offrir une quantité de projets, tous sur le même poste! Vous pouvez tous les voir ICI. Et voilà le mien, mon deuxième essai sur le shabby.

De nouveau j'ai fais ma fleur selon le tuto d'Ally. Le petit cadre était blanc à la base. Je l'ai embossé avec une poudre bleue puis j'ai appliqué un peu de l'encre Distress Walnut Stain parce qu'il avait l'air trop neuf et poli. En préparant cette carte j'avais naturellement en tête le défi de Moxie Fab World. Il me plaît ce défi. Grâce à lui je vais encore adopter pour du bon le style shabby!

I made again my flower according to Ally's tutorial. The little frame was white at first. I embossed it with some blue ep and applied some Distress ink Walnut Stain to it since it looked to new and polished. While working on this card I had naturally Moxie Fab World's challenge. I love that challenge. Thanks to it I might adopt the shabby style for good!

Tentations / Temptations

La tentation du shabby est très forte. J'aime ce style sans vraiment l'avoir essayer. Mais quand on voit des merveilles telles que les créations de Carole, on ne peut que vouloir faire pareil. En plus, avec le défi de Moxie Fab pour essayer un autre style que celui que l'on pratique habituellement, c'est une invitation à ne pas manquer. Voilà alors comment se présente le résultat d'un mariage entre mon premier essai shabby avec un sketch de 2 Sketches 4 You. Parce que ça c'est une autre tentation!

The temptation of shabby is strong. I love this style without having tried my hand on it. But when you see marvels like those made by Carole, one can only want to make the same. Plus, there's this Moxie Fab challenge out there to make us try the style that isn't ours on a daily basis. And THAT is an invitation one cannot miss! So, here's a result of a marriage between my first try on a shabby style and 2 Sketches 4 You sketch. Which is yet another temptation!

Une 'tite page? / A lil' layout?

Bonjour! Le weekend a été bon, pas seulement parce que le temps s'est un peu rafraîchi mais aussi parce que j'ai pu enfin faire une page qui me trottait dans la tête depuis un moment. J'ai fais plein de sketch mais le résultat final ne ressemble pas du tout au dessin initial. Mais enfin, ce qui compte c'est que la page est faite! La voici:

Hello! The last weekend was a good one. Not only because the weather was a bit cooler but also because I had some time to make a layout that was on my mind for quite a while. I made plenty of sketches but the final result didn't look at all as the first design. Here it is:

Sur cette dernière photo vous pouvez voir que j'ai embossé un de trois papillons en haut avec une poudre scintillante pour rappeler le brillant de la carte du journaling.

On this last picture you can see that I embossed one of the three butterflies with a shimmery embossing powder to recall the glitter of the journaling card. And the journaling says: "The most charming is the very unconsciousness of your own charm."

Je termine ici pour ne plus vous priver des charmes d'une piscine... :)

I finish here so that you no longer be deprived of a swimming pool's charms... :)

We are interested in designers with a variety of styles who can creatively showcase myStampBOX designs in their cards, altered art and scrapbook layouts. No previous design team experience is necessary.

Term is 6 months from October 1st, 2010 to March 31st, 2011.

* 1 blog entry per month including good quality photos of a project and instructions/tutorial

Défi de style / Style challenge

En fait, ce n'est probablement pas le cas. Puisque pour le défi de style de Moxie Fab World j'ai fais une carte dans le style C&S. Et c'est ce que je fais la plupart de temps. Mais comme il y a 3 autres défis pour 3 autres styles, et comme il y a du temps, je vais tenter de les essayer tous. Finalement c'est ça un défi!

Probably, this isn't really the case. Since for the style challenge over at Moxie Fab World, I made a C&S card. And that's what I do most of the time. But since there are 3 other challenges for 3 other styles, and since there's some time left to participate, I will try them all. Because that's the real challenge!

Voilà ma carte qui aussi correspond au défi de SRM Stickers. On dirait que le monde se met au C&S. Et ce n'est pas pour me déplaire!

Here's my card which also goes with the SRM Stickers challenge. The world goes C&S. And I just like that!

Apprendre / Learning

Mais qu'est-ce qu'elle veut celle-là? Apprendre alors que l'école vient de se terminer?! Non mais??!! Eh bien, j'espère bien que vous êtes toujours à l'affût de nouvelles choses à apprendre, surtout en ce qui concèrne ce super hobby qu'est le scrap! La première leçon aujourd'hui est d'apprendre de mes essaie et erreurs. Et oui, ça m'arrive! Comme vous le savez peut-être, j'aime bien jouer avec le papier aquarelle, les encres Distress et l'eau mélangée à de la poudre Perfect Pearls. Jusque là j'avais un bloc de ce papier en qualité de 300g/m2. Je le trouvais un peu trop épais. Je viens d'en acheter deux autres blocs en qualité de 190g/m2, un peu plus fin. Je croayias faire une très bonne affaire, surtout qu'un d deux blocs est grand et irait à merveille sur une page de scrap. Mais voilà que je viens de l'essayer et c'est la decéption! Il pompe beaucoup trop l'encre (déjà au moment de l'embossage - l'image s'efface un peu) et surtout il absorbe à une vitesse folle l'eau. Du coup, je n'ai presque pas eu le temps de chauffer cette eau et de la faire ce ballader sur papier pour faire des jolis dessins. Conclusion: le papier plus épais sert mieux à cette technique! Comparaison ci-dessus:

What on Earth is she talking about? Learning while on vacation?! Is the Sun shining too hard on her head??!! Well, I hope you're always on the lookout for new things to learn, especially when it comes to our cool hobby! First lesson today is about learning from my tries and mistakes. As you may know, I love to play with watercolor paper, Distress inks and pearlized water. Till now, I mostly used a watercolor paper of 300g/m2 (140 lbs). I found it a bit too thick. I just bought two other pads of thinner paper, about 190g/m2. I thought it was a great deal since one of the pads is big enough to go on a layout. But I've just tried it and I'm disappointed! It absorbs very quickly the ink (already while embossing, the image is disappearing a bit) and most of all it takes water in very quickly! As a result, I almost didn't have time to heat it and make water go around to make nice streaks. Conclusion: the thicker paper is better for this technique! To compare, look here:


J'ai utilisé l'image à droite pour ma carte - elle apparaît un peu plus jaune sur la photo, je crois que c'est dû à l'effet brillant.

J'ai beaucoup aimé ces couleurs si belles et lumineuses. Alors même si je n'ai pas les mêmes encres, j'ai utilisé les encres Distress dans les teintes à peu près les mêmes, je les ai mélangées et coilà ce que ça donne:

I loved a lot this color palette, so beautiful and fair. And even though I don't have the same inks, I used my Distress inks in almost the same shades, mixed them and here's the result:

Défi CAS-tastic challenge #9

Bonjour! C'est mercredi ce qui veut dire qu'il est temps de vous annoncer le nouveau défi CAS-tastic! Cette fois-ci, le défi consiste à faire une carte en utilisant la palette des couleurs suivante: jaune, bleu et neutre (p.ex. kraft). Après deux jours de cartes avec des coquelicots, en voilà une autre! Ben quoi? Le tampon était dans ma main alors je l'ai utilisé! ;-)

Hello! It's Wednesday and this means that it is time for a new CAS-tastic challenge! This time it is all about making a card with blue, yellow and neutral. After two days of cards with poppies, here's another one! What's the problem? The stamp was inked so I just used it! ;-)

Matériel: cdc Migros et Bazzil; tampons HA; encres Tsukineko; crayons de couleur Caran d'Ache; boutton MM; ruban, ficelle

Quand j'ai appris le thème de ce hop, j'ai tout de suite pensé aux centaines de photos qui d'habitude résultent de vacances et autres beaux jours. Elles finissent au mieux sur une ou deux pages scrappées mais il y a beaucoup qui ne voient même pas le jour. Alors je me suis dis que j'allais faire un cadre pour la plus belle de photo. Et notre dernier séjour en France tombe à point nommé - je pense que je n'aurai pas une meilleure photo!

When I learned the theme of this hop, I immediately thought about hundreds of pictures that we take during holidays and other beautiful days. They finish their life on a couple of scrapbook pages at best but many of them won't even see the light a the day. So I thought about creating a frame for the best of all the pictures. And our stay in France last week was just perfect - I don't think I'll have a better picture this year!

Matériel: cdc Migros; tampons myStamp Box; encres Ranger et Tsukineko

Voici comment j'ai fait ce cadre. Tout d'abord j'ai tamponné les nuages et les ai embossé avec de la poudre blanche.

Here's how I made it. First, I stamped the clouds and white heat embossed them.

Ensuite, j'ai appliqué deux teintes des encres Distress: Tumbled Glass et Broken China.

Then, I applied two Distress inks: Tumbled Glass and Broken China.

Ensuite, j'ai découpé le milieu de cette carte en suivant les contours de nuages. J'ai aussi fait un soleil de la même manière et préparé une bande qui me servira de pied pour faire tenir mon cadre debout.

Then, I cut out the middle of this card following clouds' shapes. I also made a Sun and prepared a paper strip that will help the frame stand.

Ensuite, j'ai placé des autocollants double-face derrière le cadre évidé le long de trois côtés.

Then, I placed some double-sided stickers behind the frame on three sides.

La dernière étape consiste à coller derrière une autre feuille de papier de la même taille, ainsi que coller le pied au bon endroit.

The last step is all about sticking another paper of the same size behind the frame and also about placing the holder in the right place.

Tout ce qui vous reste à faire maintenant c'est d'insérer votre photo préférée dans ce petit cadre et... d'aller au blog suivant! Voici la liste complète (au cas où vous avez manquez quelqu'un):

Bonjour! Problèmes d'édition de messages, longues pauses entre les messages, autant de signes de mon absence. Mais maintenant je suis de retour! De retour de quelques jours de vacances avec des amies et leurs enfants au Sud de la France, ce que vous pouvez déjà voir sur ma page de Scrap Rendez-Vous avec Alexandra. Pendant ces vacances, à part de s'occuper de petits, j'ai passé le virus de scrap à mes copines. Nous avons scrappé jusqu'au tard dans la nuit et fait quelques cartes. Ici, la première de miennes:

Hello! Some edition problems, long breaks in between messages, plenty of reasons to believe that I was absent. But now I'm back! Back from a few days that I spent in the south of France with friends and their children. You can already see some of that on a layout I made for the Scrap Rendez-Vous with Alexandra. While on vacation, I passed on the scrap virus to my friends. We were scrapping till late and tried to make some cards. Here's the first of mine:

Matériel: cdc Migros et Bastel Müller AG; tampons HA; encres Ranger et Tsukineko; poudres à embosser Aladine et Artemio; brads Master Pieces Studio; ficelle

J'ai utilisé une poudre à embosser argentée pour l'effet métalisé. Et pour le fond vert, un papier artisanal. Du coup, la poudre blanche a été absorbée et ceci a donné cet effet un peu effacé.

For the image, I used a silver embossing powder to obtain this metallic shine. And for the green background, I used a homemade paper. The white powder got absorbed and the image is sort of faded. I love this effect!

Ma deuxième carte, je me suis servie d'une palette de couleurs proposée par Play Date Café que voici:

For my second card, I used the color combo proposed by Play Date Café. Here it is:


Et voici ma carte. Pour obtenir la couleur "aqua", j'ai d'abord colorié ma fleur avec du bleu puis avec du vert et de nouveau du bleu. Je crois que l'effet est bon!

And here's my card. To obtain the "aqua" color, I colored my flower first with blue, then with green and with blue again. I think the final result is OK!

J'en ai déjà fait une la semaine dernière mais ce n'est pas grave, on peut interpréter ce thème de bien diverses manières. Voilà ma proposition.
